The Ebonyi State Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (EBSMEDA), in its unwavering commitment to empowering local businesses and stimulating sustainable economic growth, has established a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Internal Revenue Services (MIRS) in Ebonyi State.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward strengthening the state’s economic framework, promoting ease of doing business, and creating a more enabling environment for MSMEs to thrive.
EBSMEDA and MIRS have worked together to educate entrepreneurs and business owners on the benefits of business registration and tax compliance. Through community outreach programs and sensitization workshops, thousands of MSMEs across the state have gained critical knowledge of tax policies, obligations, and incentives.
Recognizing the unique challenges faced by small businesses, both agencies collaborated to introduce more MSME-friendly tax structures. This includes the simplification of tax filing processes and the development of customized tax regimes tailored to micro and small-scale enterprises.
In an effort to enhance economic planning and policy-making, EBSMEDA and MIRS have jointly undertaken the collection and profiling of small businesses across Ebonyi State. This shared database allows for more accurate revenue forecasting and ensures targeted support for MSMEs based on their specific needs.
Through joint strategy sessions, the two bodies have found a balance between increasing internally generated revenue (IGR) and supporting grassroots economic development. MSMEs are now better positioned to grow while contributing meaningfully to the state’s economy.
Through the collaboration between EBSMEDA and the Ministry of Internal Revenue Services, over 5,000 MSMEs have been formalized and integrated into the state tax system with streamlined processes. This has led to increased public trust in government institutions, a boost in internally generated revenue without hindering business growth, and greater financial inclusion as more businesses now access credit, grants, and government support programs.
