In line with Ebonyi State’s vision for agricultural transformation and economic inclusivity, the Ebonyi State Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (EBSMEDA) has partnered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to build a thriving agro-based economy.
This strategic collaboration is empowering farmers, agri-processors, and agripreneurs across the state through training, access to funding, modern tools, and value chain development. The partnership is not only enhancing food production and processing but also creating sustainable livelihoods for rural communities.
EBSMEDA identifies and supports small-scale farmers, cooperatives, agro-traders, and processors by providing business training, financial literacy, and enterprise development services. The Ministry complements this effort with access to improved seedlings, mechanization services, and extension officers to boost productivity.
Through this partnership, eligible agro-MSMEs have been connected to soft loans, grants, and input support programs. EBSMEDA facilitates access to agricultural finance while the Ministry ensures the timely supply of quality seeds, fertilizers, and other critical inputs.
Both agencies are working together to enhance value addition in agriculture. From rice and cassava to vegetables and poultry, entrepreneurs are supported in processing, packaging, and marketing their products, ensuring increased profitability and market competitiveness.
Jointly, EBSMEDA and the Ministry have launched agribusiness training and empowerment initiatives targeting youth and women. These programs promote agriculture as a business, reduce unemployment, and encourage the adoption of modern farming techniques.
The partnership also focuses on promoting sustainable use of natural resources such as land, water, and forests. Farmers are trained on climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, and conservation techniques that preserve the environment and ensure long-term productivity.
