Culture & Tourism

Together, EBSMEDA and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism are transforming culture into capital. By building creative capacity, investing in local talent, and linking culture to commerce, this partnership is helping position Ebonyi State as a leading destination for cultural excellence and entrepreneurial growth.

Through this synergy, Ebonyi is not only preserving its identity — it is also creating economic opportunities that uplift communities and empower generations.

This dynamic partnership is designed to empower local creatives, boost cultural tourism, and support the development of MSMEs within the culture, arts, and hospitality sectors — transforming cultural pride into profitable ventures for individuals and communities alike.

EBSMEDA & Ministry of Culture and Tourism: Empowering Entrepreneurs Through Heritage and Hospitality

Support for Cultural Entrepreneurs and Artisans

EBSMEDA provides business development services to cultural entrepreneurs, including artists, fashion designers, traditional performers, sculptors, and craftspeople. These creatives are given training in branding, business management, digital marketing, and product packaging to make their craft more commercially viable, while the Ministry promotes their works at state, national, and international platforms.

Empowerment Through Cultural Festivals and Events

Working with the Ministry, EBSMEDA helps identify and support MSMEs to participate in major cultural festivals, such as the Nkwa Nwite Cultural Carnival and New Yam Festivals. These events provide entrepreneurs with visibility, sales opportunities, and networking platforms to showcase Ebonyi’s cultural richness.

Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Development

The collaboration has contributed to the development of tourism sites like the Abakaliki Salt Lakes, the Ishiagu Caves, and the Ndibe Golden Beach. EBSMEDA works to support small businesses operating in and around these attractions—hotels, tour guides, transport services, food vendors—offering access to funding, formalization, and business growth tools.

Women and Youth Empowerment in the Creative Economy

A special focus is placed on empowering women and young people involved in fashion, local food production, storytelling, music, and heritage preservation. Training programs, grants, and exhibition opportunities are tailored to this demographic to drive inclusivity and innovation in the cultural sector.

Impacts and Achievements

  • Over 2,000 cultural and tourism-based MSMEs supported through capacity building, access to markets, and funding.

  • Inclusion of local creatives in state-sponsored festivals, increasing visibility and revenue.

  • Enhanced community-based tourism, creating jobs in rural areas and preserving heritage.

  • Growth of women-led and youth-led enterprises in the creative sector.
